Some dental decisions are too important for guesswork. Our in-office 3D CT scanner gives Annapolis patients exact implant planning, safer root canal care, and airway views for sleep apnea treatment, all in a one-minute, low-dose scan at Annapolis Dental Center.
What a CBCT Scan Shows
Cone-beam computed tomography, CBCT for short, creates a complete three-dimensional map of your teeth, jawbone, nerve pathways, sinuses, and airway. Where a regular X-ray flattens your anatomy into a single plane, CBCT lets us rotate, slice, and measure every structure with sub-millimeter accuracy.
For patients that precision translates into real-world benefits: implants placed in the strongest bone, root canals that find hidden canals the first time, and sleep appliances built around your actual airway shape. When you can see more, you guess less, and that is the point.
- Bone height, width, and density measured exactly
- Nerve canals and sinus boundaries mapped in 3D
- Airway shape visible for sleep apnea evaluation
- Full results ready before you leave the chair

CBCT vs. X-Ray vs. Panoramic: What Each One Is For
Every imaging tool earns its keep differently. Bitewings and periapicals, our standard 2D digital X-rays, are perfect for tracking cavities between cleanings. A panoramic X-ray shows your whole mouth in one comfortable sweep, great for wisdom teeth and broad overviews. A CBCT answers the questions that need depth: exactly how thick is the bone under this implant site, where does that nerve run, how hidden is this infection, and what does the airway look like.
We choose the least imaging that fully answers the question at hand. That is why most patients only meet the CBCT scanner when they are planning implant restorations or complex treatment.
- 2D digital X-rays for routine decay checks
- Panoramic for whole-mouth overviews
- CBCT reserved for 3D-critical decisions
- Always: least radiation that answers the question

Getting Your 3D Scan
About ten minutes from parking lot to answers
Check-In
We review what we are imaging and why, and answer questions about comfort and radiation dose.
The Scan
You stand or sit still while the arm rotates once around your head. No sensors in your mouth, no injections.
3D Review
We walk through your anatomy together on screen, in plain language you can actually act on.
Plan Locked In
Measurements become a precise treatment plan, whether for an implant, endodontic work, or sleep therapy.
Why Implant Patients Prefer 3D-Guided Care
Safer Surgery
Nerve and sinus positions are fixed landmarks now, not educated guesses.
Faster Visits
Planned surgeries run shorter, with less chair time and fewer unforeseen steps.
No Imaging Referrals
Your scan, plan, and treatment all happen in one office, so nothing is lost between providers.
Shared Decisions
You see the same 3D view we do, so treatment plans feel collaborative instead of mysterious.
